What is Pine Street Cohousing?

Pine Street Cohousing is a community of 11 dwellings on 7 and a half acres of shared land surrounded on three sides by the Simple Gifts Farm CSA.

Our cohousing is an intentional community of private homes clustered around shared space. Shared spaces include a community garden, play structure, and storage shed. Shared outdoor space includes 9 acres of property, parking, walkways, open space, and gardens. Neighbors also share resources like plowing, tools and lawnmowers.

Households have independent incomes and private lives, but neighbors collaboratively plan and manage community activities and shared spaces. The legal structure is a, Condo Association. Neighbors gather for parties, games, movies, monthly meetings, work days or other events.

  • Neighbors commit to being part of a community for everyone’s mutual benefit.
  • Cohousing cultivates a culture of sharing and caring.
  • We use consensus decision making in our meetings

As part of the process of becoming a waiting list member, we want to be sure you have information about the process and requirements for purchasing a home here in the community.

All of the units in the Pine Street Cohousing are sold to buyers as condominium units.

As part of the Pine Street Cohousing Condominium Association, properties come with many shared amenities including over seven acres of land, a community garden space and a friendly, neighborhood feel. All of the houses in the community are wonderfully landscaped, and the setting is a peaceful, shaded enclave with recreational walking and skiing from the back door step into the permanently preserved farmland which surrounds it. The co-housing is on the bus line that connects with University of MA, the town Center, Amherst College, Northampton and Mt Holyoke Co. Across the street is conservation land that includes an extensive trail system, a swimming pond and a recreation area (with outdoor pool, tennis courts, two baseball diamonds and a children’s playground). North Amherst Center has a Post Office, a branch library, several eateries and a small shopping center.
